I have seen people put a lot of emphasis on losing weight and having a well-fitted dress for their friends or family forthcoming wedding party. So many other people also want to have enough money to improve their living conditions and fast track their social status and happiness. Do people sustain their weight loss programs after their parties? Does wealth really bring happiness? How about your interpersonal relationships? How about your wellbeing?
Good health is a combination of a stable mind and a physically well body fit enough to accomplish the things we have set our hearts to do. Health has been defined as not only the absence of a disease condition but also the ability to recover from illness and it is imperative that we are also aware of the factors that can affect good health which include lifestyle choices or behaviour, our environment, our relationships with friends and family, educational status, and access to healthcare.
Well-being simply put and defined by the Oxford English Dictionary is “the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy”. It is very important to emphasize that what makes individuals happy may be different but how satisfied people are is very significant as this can also affect their sense of purpose and their well-being.
Taking ownership and looking after your well-being will therefore help you preserve your health through the lifestyle choices that you make. Looking after your well-being is not achieved overnight but taking practical steps with lifelong commitment will not only enable you to maintain optimal wellbeing but will maximize your health. No wonder Ryan Howes, a clinical psychologist described “wellbeing as being associated with balance, understanding, acceptance and constant growth.”
