Pharmahealthtalk on Healthy Goals.
It is obvious that in the new year we all may have set our healthy goals. Perhaps you have set goals to quit smoking, engage in more exercises, manage your stress levels or even lose weight.
The question is ‘How do you sustain those goals in 2020?’
You probably may not have set any healthy goals previously but it is not too late to add some healthy goals into your 2020 wellbeing plans.
Goals can be daunting, complex and frustrating if you do not seem to be making progress and seeing the results of those goals.
The first step is to surround yourself with people who share the same goals and could motivate and help you realise your goals.
So I also would encourage you to take time in understanding and reviewing your goals once again to ensure that they pass the ‘SMART’ test and they are not burdensome to achieve.
I shall attempt to breakdown SMART to help you overcome the challenges of achieving your goals.
1. Ensure that your goals are SPECIFIC. Write them down. It could be ‘ I will include fruits as part of my diet’.
2. Put things in place to MEASURE your goals. Set healthy goals that are practicable and can be measured. You could use an APP on your smartphone or calendar to log your efforts.
3. Your goals should be ACHIEVABLE. Be truthful to yourself. Can you do a 1 mile walk per day rather than setting 5 miles per day?
4. A REALISTIC goal is important as well. Focus on your most important and what you struggle most with that could affect your health. Is it realistic to give up smoking first than to losing weight? Prioritize on the sure ones and the very essential one.
5. Your commitments to these goals have to be inset TIME. Choose a starting date and time for your 15-30 mins walk schedule. Log them in your calendar and be flexible if you have to make adjustments.
Look out for what motivates you while setting your goals.
It can be very difficult sticking to your goals but ensure that whatever health goals you set, they can stand the SMART test.
Good morning.
